Material and fit
A hat, not a prop.
Most top hats sold online are thin polyester costume pieces. They shine under light, dent in the box and lose their shape by the end of the night.
Ferrecci top hats are 100% wool felt. Felt is wool that has been pressed and matted until it is dense, so it has a soft matte surface, real weight in the hand and a crown that stands up on its own. The crown and brim are reinforced, which is why the hat keeps its line wear after wear.
Wool felt also takes dye deeply. The black is a true black, and the bright colors stay saturated on camera and under stage lights. Ferrecci has designed formalwear in Los Angeles since 2009.
Find your size
Wrap a soft tape around your head about one inch above your ears, where the hat will sit. If you're between sizes, size up. Wool felt eases slightly with wear.

What you're looking at.
The crown
A tall, flat-top cylinder with straight sides. This is the classic top hat shape, structured so it holds without a liner or stuffing.
The brim
A 2-inch brim, curled up at the sides and dipped slightly at the front and back, with a bound edge that keeps the curl.
The band
A wide grosgrain ribbon wraps the base of the crown and finishes in a flat bow at the side. Grosgrain is the ribbed ribbon used in traditional hat making.
The feather
A small feather accent sits at the bow. It adds a point of color against the felt and is the first thing people notice up close.
The felt
100% wool felt, matte and dense. It doesn't shine like polyester, and it eases slightly to your head with wear.

Weddings and black tie

How to wear it.
Sit it level
A top hat sits straight on the head, about an inch above the ears, not tipped back. A slight tilt forward or to one side reads more playful.
Match or contrast
Match the hat to your jacket for a full look, or let one bright hat do the work against black and white.
Use the feather
Pick up the feather's color in a pocket square, bow tie, scarf or lipstick to tie the outfit together.
Handle by the brim
Lift it on and off by the brim, front and back, so the crown keeps its shape.

It's a real hat. Each one is made from structured 100% wool felt with a reinforced crown and brim, not thin polyester.

Size up. Wool felt eases slightly with wear, and a hat that's a touch loose is more comfortable than one that's tight.

How do I care for it?
Spot clean only. Brush it gently with a soft hat brush, keep it dry, and store it on a hat stand or in a hat box so it keeps its shape.
